The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Adekimi Ojo, has ordered a thorough investigation into allegations of extortion involving some police officers deployed along the Osi-Eruku highway in the Kwara South Senatorial District.

The directive followed the circulation of a video on social media purportedly showing officers of the command engaging in acts of extortion from motorists on the highway.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Ilorin, the state capital, the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the Commissioner of Police had taken the matter seriously and ordered an immediate inquiry to ascertain the authenticity of the claims and identify the officers involved.

“The Command is aware of a video footage circulating on social media alleging that some officers on duty along Osi-Eruku highway were involved in acts of extortion.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, has directed a thorough investigation into the incident,” the statement read in part.

Ejire-Adeyemi assured members of the public that the command remains committed to maintaining professionalism and discipline within its ranks, adding that any officer found culpable would face appropriate sanctions in line with police regulations.

She further urged residents to continue to support the police by providing credible information that could help enhance security and accountability across the state.

The Kwara Police Command reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on corruption and misconduct, emphasizing that such acts do not reflect the values or standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
