The Kano State Executive Council has approved more than ₦8.2 billion for projects aimed at revitalising the education sector, strengthening water supply, and improving energy efficiency across the state.
The approvals were announced in separate statements issued on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, who said the decisions were reached during the council’s 33rd meeting, presided over by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
According to Bature, over ₦4.9 billion of the total allocation has been earmarked for key education interventions designed to boost infrastructure, improve learning standards, and expand access to quality education in both urban and rural areas.
He explained that the education component includes the renovation and construction of classrooms, provision of modern teaching materials, and rehabilitation of selected schools to create a more conducive learning environment.
Bature added that the council also approved substantial investments in the state’s water supply system to ensure sustainable access to clean and safe water for residents. He noted that these efforts align with Governor Yusuf’s commitment to improving public welfare through efficient service delivery.
In addition, part of the ₦8.2 billion will be used to enhance energy efficiency in public facilities, with new initiatives aimed at reducing power costs and promoting renewable energy adoption across key sectors.
Governor Yusuf, who chaired the meeting, reaffirmed his administration’s determination to restore Kano’s position as a hub of educational excellence and sustainable urban development.
“The goal is not just to build structures, but to build a stronger foundation for learning, health, and economic progress,” Bature quoted the governor as saying.
The projects are expected to commence immediately, with relevant ministries and agencies directed to ensure timely and transparent implementation.
