Being killed for your religious beliefs is consistently with us for decades. But before 2015, such actions were not hailed as acts of heroics.
Remember that Boko Haram became active under President Umaru Yar Ardua but was used as weapon of attack to bring down the government of President Goodluck Jonathan.
In fact, the opposition leader, Gen Mohammed Buhari, ( later President M Buhari) declared that ” An attack on Boko Haram is an attack on the North.”
Also, the leaders of Borno state demanded the removal of the military as the people were better treated by the Boko Haram group.
Understand the Federal Government of the past 10 years, religious killings and massacre had rationalized as Communal conflict.
Accommodate your neighbor.
Struggle for water.
Struggle/recovery of herd’s route/ land.
Political consideration.
Struggle for land ownership.
In all these gerrymandering, the Federal Government of Nigeria never made any definite actions against the killers.
In the past 24 hours, the news of the threats from President Trump’s government has been flooding the media.
The government of Nigeria has responded (paraphrase) with “It’s not only Christians who killed.
Muslims are killed too!
So there is no need for this threat.
Let me say it LOUD and CLEAR!
“Nigeria is suffering from POVERTY of LEADERSHIP.
We have military divisions all over the country, We have well trained soldiers, We have the weapons.
But, we are suffering from POVERTY of Thoughts.
The failure of intelligence is glaring.
The compromised leadership is there.
Soldiers & the Secret Police will always wait for the command of the leaders.
So the killings will be there because the leaders failed to take decisive strike to eliminate it.
