The immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Retired General Christopher Musa, has urged Nigerian soldiers to remain steadfast in their commitment to national security, declaring that Nigeria remains a nation worth fighting for.
Musa made the call on Friday in Abuja during an emotional Pulling-Out Parade organised in his honour to mark the end of his 39-year military career.
Addressing top military officers, dignitaries, and family members, the retired general expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation, describing his years in uniform as a journey of honour, sacrifice, and patriotism.
He said, “Nigeria is a great nation with enormous potential. Despite the challenges we face, we must never lose faith. This country is worth every effort, every sacrifice, and every drop of sweat shed in its defence.”
Musa commended the Armed Forces for their resilience in combating terrorism, banditry, and other security threats, urging them to remain professional, disciplined, and united in safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity.
He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his leadership and support for the military, saying the administration’s focus on modernising defence infrastructure was critical to national stability.
In his remarks, the current Chief of Defence Staff, General Edward Buba, described Musa as “a rare leader and a soldier’s soldier” whose service and dedication left a lasting mark on the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The ceremony featured a guard of honour, parade displays, and the traditional pulling-out of the retired general in a symbolic farewell.
General Musa retired from active service after nearly four decades of meritorious duty, during which he held several key command positions and contributed significantly to Nigeria’s counterterrorism operations.
