Dangote Cement Plc has commenced operations at its newly completed cement plant in Côte d’Ivoire, marking another milestone in the company’s expansion drive across Africa. The plant, located in the industrial zone of Abidjan, has a production capacity of 3.0 million metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) and is expected to significantly boost local production, reduce cement imports, and create thousands of direct and indirect jobs in the West African nation. In a statement released on Monday, the Group Managing Director of Dangote Cement, said the company’s investment in Côte d’Ivoire underscores its commitment to supporting Africa’s industrial growth and regional economic integration.
The commencement of operations in Côte d’Ivoire reinforces our Pan-African vision of self-sufficiency in cement production. This plant will not only meet local demand but also serve neighbouring countries in the ECOWAS sub-region,” He added that the plant was equipped with modern technology that ensures environmental sustainability and energy efficiency in line with global best practices. The new facility is part of Dangote Group’s ongoing continental expansion, which already includes cement plants in Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Cameroon, Tanzania, Zambia, and Ethiopia, among others. Economic analysts say the new Ivorian plant will help stabilize cement prices in the region and further enhance intra-African trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework. Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, representatives of the Ivorian government commended the Dangote Group for its confidence in the country’s economy, noting that the project aligns with Côte d’Ivoire’s industrialization agenda and infrastructure development goals.
