The Federal Government has called on the international community to disregard allegations of genocide circulating in some foreign media and online platforms, describing them as false, misleading, and politically motivated.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made the appeal in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, insisting that the Nigerian government remains fully committed to protecting the rights and lives of all citizens regardless of ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.
Idris said the allegations were part of a “deliberate misinformation campaign” aimed at tarnishing the country’s image and inciting division among its people.
Nigeria is a responsible member of the international community and will never be associated with any act amounting to genocide or crimes against humanity.”
“These false narratives are being spread by individuals and groups seeking to destabilise our nation and undermine ongoing efforts at peace building and national unity.”
He explained that the government has maintained a proactive approach to addressing security challenges through dialogue, community engagement, and enforcement of law and order.
The minister also urged foreign governments, international organisations, and media outlets to verify facts before lending credence to unsubstantiated claims.

According to him, the administration of President Bola Tinubu has prioritised the protection of human rights and rule of law, while intensifying efforts to end insecurity and foster economic inclusion nationwide.
Idris reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency, justice, and accountability, urging Nigerians to remain united in the face of attempts to incite fear and mistrust.
