The Golden Eagles have returned home after failing to pick a ticket to next year’s AFCON U17.
The two finalists,host Ivory Coast and Ghana qualify automatically from WAFU B,but unfortunately the Eaglets finished third .
Lat year in Ghana, same situation played out with the Eaglets finishing third and failing to make the championships .
With the performance in Ivory Coast the Golden Eaglets have failed to qualify for the AFCON U17 back-to-back which endangers the future of players under this category.
The Eaglets won their opening game against Benin Republic 4-1, and drew goalless with Burkina Faso to reach the semi final as group winners
The team though topped the group, could not fly over the Black Starlets of Ghana in the semi losing 0-2 to bid farewell to next year’s AFCON U17.
In the four games the team played, two Eaglets, Boluwatife Israel Thompson and Ahmed Yusuf won Man of the Match award but was not good enough to hand the AFCON ticket to the team.
