Benin City, the Edo State capital, will come alive this December as it plays host to the 2025 edition of the Edo Carnival, a cultural and tourism showcase expected to attract participants from across Nigeria and beyond.

The Edo State Government announced on Friday that the carnival will feature traditional dance, music, fashion, street parades, and contemporary performances that highlight the rich cultural heritage of the Edo people.

Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Uyi Oduwa-Malaka, said the carnival is part of the state’s broader plan to boost tourism and create economic opportunities for residents.

>Edo Carnival 2025 will not only celebrate our heritage but also promote unity, creativity, and tourism. We are positioning Benin City as a global destination for cultural festivals,” she stated.

Organizers revealed that the carnival will host local and international troupes, food fairs, art exhibitions, and a fashion showcase featuring Edo traditional attire alongside modern designs.

Security agencies and traffic management officials are already working with the carnival committee to ensure safety and smooth flow of activities during the festivities.

Tourism operators predict that the event will inject millions of naira into the local economy through hospitality, transportation, and entertainment.

Residents and cultural enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the festival, which has been described as a “December to remember” for Edo State.
