Osogbo – The Osun State Police Command has issued a counter-statement disputing Amotekun Corps’ version of events following a violent clash in Akinlalu, Ife North Local Government, which allegedly left three residents dead and several others injured.
According to police reports, information was received around 1:20 p.m. from community leader Chief Oyebamiji Kamorudeen that Amotekun operatives stormed Akinlalu with two official patrol vehicles and a private car, allegedly in retaliation for two pump-action rifles earlier snatched from their men by unidentified persons.
During the invasion, operatives allegedly fired sporadic gunshots, leaving three residents injured — Adeagbo Kadijat (22), Oke-Ila Oyebamiji (60), and Fayomi Toheeb (19) — and three others dead: Ibrahim Oyebamiji (26), Sefiu Oyebamiji, and Abiola Olutayo. Their corpses were reportedly taken away by Amotekun operatives.Police personnel later mobilized to the scene, recovering 13 expended cartridges and evacuating the injured to hospitals. The officers also calmed angry residents who threatened reprisal attacks, restoring order in the tense community.
However, the Amotekun Corps released a separate statement alleging that its operatives were first ambushed by armed hoodlums while responding to a distress call. According to the Corps, two service rifles were snatched during the ambush. They further claimed that reinforcement teams dispatched to Akinlalu met heavy resistance at a barricaded junction, sparking a fierce gun battle lasting over an hour. The Corps stated that three suspected attackers were killed, arrests were made, and the stolen firearms were later recovered from a hideout.
In light of the conflicting reports, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, mnips, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Osogbo, for a discreet and thorough investigation.
The Police Command stressed that all claims and counterclaims — including allegations of murder, assault occasioning harm, gun snatching, and impersonation — would be carefully verified to establish the truth and ensure justice.
Residents of Akinlalu and the wider public have been urged to remain calm as tactical units have been deployed to maintain peace and prevent escalation.
The Osun Police Command reiterated its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and upholding the rule of law, while calling on members of the public to provide credible information to aid the investigation.

The Corps reported that during the ambush, two service rifles were snatched. ‎Amotekun further stated that reinforcement operatives dispatched to the scene came under heavy gunfire at a barricaded junction into Akinlalu, resulting in a fierce exchange of fire lasting over an hour. According to their account, three suspected attackers lost their lives, arrests were made, and the stolen firearms were recovered from a hideout.
Given the conflicting reports, the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Gotan, mnips has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Osogbo, which is the apex criminal investigative body within the state for a discreet and thorough investigation.

The Command urges residents of Akinlalu and the general public to remain calm and law-abiding. Tactical teams have been reinforced in the area to maintain peace and prevent breakdown of law and order.
