Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the February 25, 2023 presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi has challenged the presidency to make public the amount it paid for the new presidential jet and how long the aircraft has been in existence.
Obi in a statement on his X handle Tuesday night, noted that transparency and accountability is the hallmark of any sincere and genuine leader.
According to him, now that the aircraft has been released by the French court, Nigerian taxpayers whose money was used to purchase the jet need to know exactly how much it cost, how old the aircraft is and how long it has been in operation.
“In addition, Nigerians also deserve to know how many of them, how old they are, and why they are being sold,” Obi stressed.
“Transparency and accountability should be the hallmark of any genuine leadership.”
The former Anambra State governor told President Bola Tinubu that his government will lose nothing but respect if it fails to provide adequate information about his leadership to the people whose money is being deployed and whose mandate the president is holding.
“A presidential jet is a major symbol of national sovereignty and state power.
“How much it costs to transport the president is a major issue of public accountability,” he said, expressing the hope that Nigerians would not be denied the right of full disclosure on the new presidential jet.
