President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged church leaders across the country to partner with his administration in driving national prosperity, unity, and peace.
Speaking on Sunday during a meeting with representatives of major Christian denominations at the State House in Abuja, the President emphasized that the challenges facing Nigeria require collective responsibility and faith-driven commitment to nation-building.
“Government cannot do it alone. We need the prayers, wisdom, and cooperation of our church leaders to rebuild trust, heal divisions, and lift our people out of poverty,” Tinubu said. “Let us build prosperity together — for every Nigerian, regardless of faith or background.”
The President acknowledged the sacrifices made by religious institutions in providing education, healthcare, and humanitarian services, describing them as “partners in progress” whose efforts complement government initiatives.
Tinubu also reassured the delegation that his administration remains committed to policies that will reduce hardship, grow the economy, and promote justice. He added that ongoing reforms, though initially tough, are designed to lay a strong foundation for shared prosperity.
Responding on behalf of the church leaders, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh, commended the government’s call for collaboration, while urging Tinubu to match words with action in delivering good governance, equity, and security.
“We will continue to pray for your success and for Nigeria,” Archbishop Okoh said. “But we also ask that the administration addresses the pressing issues of hunger, unemployment, and insecurity with urgency, so that Nigerians can truly feel the dividends of democracy.”
The meeting ended with both sides agreeing to deepen dialogue and create platforms for stronger church-government cooperation in areas such as social welfare, peacebuilding, and moral orientation.
