The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced that it will commence free delivery of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, to depots nationwide from Monday, September 15, 2025, while slashing its ex-depot price to ₦490 per litre.
In a statement on Friday, the refinery’s management said the move was aimed at easing the burden of soaring fuel costs on Nigerians and demonstrating the refinery’s role in driving down the price of petroleum products through local production.
“Beginning Monday, Nigerians will benefit from free depot delivery and a new reduced ex-depot price of ₦490 per litre. This initiative is part of our commitment to ensuring affordable energy and stabilising the downstream petroleum sector,” the statement read.
The announcement has sparked optimism across the country, with independent marketers, transport unions, and economic analysts describing it as a “bold intervention” that could crash pump prices and ease inflationary pressures.
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) praised the refinery, noting that the development would “improve supply, reduce scarcity, and set a new benchmark for local refining.”
Experts, however, cautioned regulators to closely monitor the distribution process to prevent hoarding, diversion, or profiteering by middlemen.
Queues that recently resurfaced in parts of Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt are now expected to clear as supply ramps up from Africa’s largest single-train refinery.
With this move, many Nigerians are hopeful that the era of import-driven fuel price hikes may gradually come to an end.
