ABUJA — The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has begun an intensive manhunt for the gunmen who killed eight of its personnel in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Following the deadly ambush, Commandant General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Audi, ordered the immediate deployment of elite tactical units including the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and Special Protection Units to search the surrounding forests and rescue a Chinese national abducted during the attack.
The incident occurred on Friday while NSCDC operatives were guarding vital infrastructure at BUA Cement Company. Witnesses reported a prolonged three-hour gunfight during which the officers managed to rescue four expatriates before eight of them were fatally shot.

In a statement released by the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Babawale, the Commandant General commended the fallen operatives for their courage and sacrifice, describing them as committed professionals who gave their lives in service to the nation.
Prof. Audi tasked Commander Dandaura Appollos of the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad with leading the operation to apprehend those responsible, free the kidnapped expatriate, and restore calm to the area.
He also called on the public to share any useful information that could aid in capturing the attackers. Meanwhile, security around BUA Cement Company has been reinforced to ensure the safety of both local and foreign staff, as well as to safeguard key infrastructure.
