Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru has procured eight new electricity transformers to tackle the 16-year power problem in Afikpo North local government area of the state.
The local government has been without electricity for 16 years and this has crippled economic activities in the area.
The eight new transformers were procured at N208m by the Governor.
The State Commissioner for Power and Energy, Peter Ogeali said all the scheduled works as contained in the bill of Engineering measurements and Evaluation have been completed.
He noted that in addition to the eight new transformers, five old ones have been refurbished and installed in different locations in the local government area.
He explained that what had  been delaying power supply to Afikpo and some other parts of southern senatorial zone in the state including Onicha, Isu, Uburu, Okposi and other communities stemmed from the  relocation of high voltage lines between Nkalagu and Ntezi along Enugu-Abakaliki highway and the vandalized portion of the network at Okposi axis in the State.
The Commissioner assured that the State and the federal governments  are working tirelessly to resolve the issues, and have approved the request for variations by the contractor handling the 33KVA Amasiri substation to compensate communities affected by the relocation to fully restore electricity not only in Afikpo but also in other neighbouring communities in Ebonyi South.
