The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a significant increase in passport application fees, effective September 1, 2025, as confirmed by a statement from Service Public Relations Officer ACI AS Akinlabi on August 28, 2025. The new fees, applicable only to applications made within Nigeria, set the cost of a 32-page passport with 5-year validity at ₦100,000, up from ₦50,000, and a 64-page passport with 10-year validity at ₦200,000, up from ₦100,000. Fees for Nigerians in the diaspora remain unchanged at $150 for the 32-page, 5-year passport and $230 for the 64-page, 10-year passport. The NIS cited the need to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport and offset rising production costs as reasons for the 100% fee hike.
