A delegation of presidential aides has paid a working visit to Japan’s officially designated hometown for Nigerians, in a move aimed at strengthening cultural ties and enhancing bilateral cooperation between both countries.
The team, led by senior advisers to the Presidency on diaspora and international relations, arrived in the Japanese town earlier in the week where they were received by local officials, community leaders, and representatives of the Nigerian community in Japan.
During the visit, the aides inspected facilities within the host town that have been earmarked for cultural exchange and investment partnerships. They also held meetings with Japanese municipal authorities to discuss opportunities for trade, education, and technology transfer that could directly benefit Nigerians at home and abroad.
Speaking at the event, one of the senior aides noted that the symbolic hometown in Japan had become a rallying point for many Nigerians living in the country. He emphasized that the visit was part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader agenda of building stronger people-to-people connections, deepening diaspora engagement, and promoting Nigeria’s image globally.
“We see this town as more than just a location. It is a bridge of friendship between Nigeria and Japan. We want our people here to feel recognized, and at the same time, open doors for collaborations that can bring investments and skills back home,” he said.
Leaders of the Nigerian community in Japan welcomed the visit, describing it as a sign of government’s increasing commitment to its diaspora citizens. They highlighted the need for more structured support in areas such as education, business partnerships, and cultural representation.
The Japanese hosts, on their part, pledged continued cooperation with Nigeria, stressing their admiration for the resilience and cultural vibrancy of Nigerians in their town. They expressed optimism that the visit would mark the beginning of deeper engagements between the two countries at the grassroots level.
The presidential aides are expected to conclude their mission with a cultural festival showcasing Nigerian music, fashion, and cuisine to the Japanese public, reinforcing mutual understanding and friendship between the two nations.
