Armed operatives of Operation Udo Ga-Achi, also known as the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, brutally assaulted National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, including a female corps member, Jennifer Edema Elohor, at a lodge in Oba, Idemili South, Anambra State, on July 23, 2025. A viral video shared by the Haven 360 Foundation on Facebook on August 18, 2025, captured the horrifying incident, showing Elohor being beaten, stripped naked, and left bloodied while armed men hurled degrading threats.
The vigilantes accused the corps members of being internet fraudsters, ignoring their NYSC identification cards and uniforms. The Anambra State Government has condemned the attack, with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Special Adviser on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, confirming the arrest and dismissal of the operatives involved, as stated on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on August 19, 2025.
The assault has sparked widespread outrage, with the Haven 360 Foundation demanding the prosecution of the perpetrators and comprehensive reparations for the victims’ physical and psychological trauma. “The assault was particularly egregious in the case of Jennifer Edema Elohor, who was beaten, stripped naked, and left exposed and covered in blood,” the foundation stated, highlighting the sexually degrading threats made during the attack.
The Anambra State Police Command, through spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, also condemned the incident as “very wrong” and noted that the operatives have been identified, though investigations are stalled due to Elohor’s temporary unavailability for medical treatment. The NYSC management condemned the assault, reporting that the matter has been formally lodged with the police for further investigation.
Emeakayi clarified that Operation Udo Ga-Achi is a joint security task force involving multiple agencies, while Agunechemba is the state’s statutory security outfit under the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025. He described the operatives’ actions as unacceptable despite their pursuit of suspected cultists during the operation. The state government has vowed to produce the dismissed operatives for prosecution and emphasized that it will not tolerate abuse of power.
