The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has appealed to motorists plying the Ogudu–Ifako axis to fully comply with traffic directives as repair works commence on the Ogudu-Ifako bridge.
According to the agency, the rehabilitation, being carried out by the Lagos State Government, is aimed at strengthening the bridge structure and improving safety for road users.
In a statement issued on Sunday, LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Adebayo Taofiq, said traffic officials have been strategically deployed to ensure smooth movement of vehicles during the repair period. He warned that indiscriminate parking, wrong-way driving, and disobedience to traffic officers would not be tolerated.
We are appealing to all motorists to obey traffic signs and comply with our personnel on duty. Any act of indiscipline or non-compliance may worsen traffic congestion and put lives at risk,” the statement read.
LASTMA assured that alternative routes have been mapped out to ease congestion while the repairs last, urging drivers to plan their journeys accordingly.
The agency further noted that the bridge repair was part of the state government’s broader effort to maintain critical infrastructure, reduce accidents, and enhance the free flow of traffic across Lagos.
Residents and commuters in the Ogudu–Ifako area expressed mixed feelings about the development. While some welcomed the government’s intervention, others lamented the expected increase in travel time during peak hours.
The repair works are expected to be completed within weeks, depending on weather conditions and technical assessments.
