Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has appointed Chinese national Li Zhensheng as Economic Adviser to the state government, a historic move announced on August 14, 2025, during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the China Global Promotion Cooperation Research Centre in Bauchi. Mohammed described the appointment as a “strategic turning point” to position Bauchi as a hub for international cooperation, aiming to attract foreign investment and drive development in agriculture, education, healthcare, manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, and trade.

A Bauchi State Representative Office will be established in China to oversee project implementation, aligning with the broader Nigeria-China diplomatic framework under Presidents Bola Tinubu and Xi Jinping.

Li Zhensheng, also chairman of the China Global Promotion Cooperation Research Centre, pledged to mobilize global resources for Bauchi’s economic transformation, stating, “We are committed to helping Bauchi achieve sustainable growth, modern infrastructure, and improved livelihoods.”

The MoU outlines a framework for collaboration, with specific project agreements to be developed case-by-case.
