The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has issued an urgent warning to residents of flood-prone areas in Adamawa State, confirming that water levels at Bakin Kogi, Jimeta, have exceeded the 6.0-meter warning threshold as of August 13, 2025. The agency reported that upstream discharges surpassing 3,222 cubic meters per second have heightened the risk of severe flooding, particularly in low-lying areas of Jimeta and surrounding communities. NEMA’s Yola Operations Office is coordinating with disaster response units to prepare for potential evacuations, with some residents already seeking shelter in Limawa and Gwadabawa Secondary Schools.
The alert follows recent devastating floods in Adamawa, where communities like Shagari Low Cost and Yolde Pate suffered significant damage, displacing hundreds and leaving dozens missing. NEMA’s ongoing monitoring, supported by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, indicates a critical situation exacerbated by heavy rainfall and water releases from upstream sources. The agency has urged residents to stay vigilant and follow safety directives from emergency services to mitigate risks.
