The Federal Government has commenced the recruitment process for permanent secretaries to serve in recently established ministries, in a move aimed at ensuring efficient administration and coordination of government policies.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), applications are now open to qualified directors in the federal civil service who meet the criteria for appointment to the strategic positions.
According to the Head of the Civil Service, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, the recruitment is part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the machinery of government following President Bola Tinubu’s recent creation of new ministries to address emerging national priorities.
“The appointment of permanent secretaries for the new ministries will ensure that policy formulation, coordination, and implementation are carried out effectively. We are committed to upholding merit, competence, and integrity in this process,” the statement read.
Didi Esther explained that the selection will involve a competitive examination, oral interviews, and a review of the applicants’ career records, in line with public service rules.
The newly created ministries which include the Ministry of Livestock Development, Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy, and Ministry of Blue Economy are expected to commence full operations before the end of the year.
Analysts say the recruitment drive will not only provide leadership for the ministries but also send a signal that the administration is serious about delivering on its reform agenda.
Applications are expected to close in two weeks, after which shortlisted candidates will be invited for further assessment.
