Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, donated N1 billion through her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) to support victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa, Niger State, during a condolence visit to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago in Minna on August 5, 2025.
The donation, accompanied by relief materials such as 2,000 bags of 50kg rice, clothes, and shoes, aims to provide housing support and essential supplies for families displaced by the May 29, 2025, floods, which killed 153 people, affected 3,018 individuals, and displaced 593 households.
Tinubu, expressing empathy, said, “As a mother, I share in your pains and grieves,” noting the donation’s role in complementing President Bola Tinubu’s swift approval of relief items and housing reconstruction.
The visit, her second humanitarian trip to Niger State this year after a N100 million donation for Dikko Junction tanker explosion victims in February, underscores her commitment to disaster-affected communities, according to a statement by her media aide Busola Kukoyi on X.
She was joined by the wife of the Chief of Staff, Salamatu Gbajabiamila, and wives of governors from states including Nasarawa, Ogun, and Kaduna. The floods, triggered by torrential rains, devastated homes, farmlands, and infrastructure in Mokwa, Kafin Koro, and Paikoro. Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, praised Tinubu’s gesture as a “demonstration of deep compassion,” emphasizing its material and emotional support.
