The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has announced that the Nigeria Police Force will honour and decorate officers who have distinguished themselves with exceptional service awards and promotions to new ranks. The decoration ceremony, slated to take place later this month at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, is part of the ongoing efforts to motivate personnel and reinforce a culture of excellence and professionalism within the force.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the officers to be decorated were selected from across the country for outstanding performance in crime-fighting, community policing, intelligence gathering, and gallantry in the face of danger.
“The Inspector-General of Police is committed to rewarding merit and promoting excellence in the Nigeria Police Force. Officers who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to duty, innovation, and bravery will be publicly recognized and decorated with their well-earned new ranks,” the statement read.
Among those to be honoured are officers who successfully led anti-kidnapping operations in the North-Central zone, personnel who foiled armed robbery attacks in Lagos and Port Harcourt, and detectives whose work led to the dismantling of major criminal syndicates in the South-East.
IGP Egbetokun emphasized that the award ceremony is not just a celebration of individual achievements, but a reaffirmation of the police leadership’s resolve to reward hard work and dedication. He urged all officers and men of the force to remain committed to their duties, assuring them that their sacrifices would not go unnoticed.
He also hinted that the police management team is reviewing welfare packages and promotion policies to further institutionalize reward systems and improve morale across all ranks.
The forthcoming ceremony is expected to be attended by senior police officials, government dignitaries, traditional rulers, and members of the Police Service Commission.
This move has been widely commended by civil society organizations and community leaders, who say that recognizing outstanding officers will boost the morale of the force and strengthen public confidence in law enforcement.
