The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested Chinese businessman Liang Tak You, 80-year-old grandmother Mrs. Grace Ekpeme, and several others in a sweeping nationwide operation targeting drug trafficking, with seizures including Colorado, a synthetic cannabis strain, hidden in moimoi sachets, and Canadian Loud concealed in imported canned food items. Liang, a Chinese national based in Malaysia, was apprehended on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, carrying 26.1kg of Canadian Loud in 50 parcels after arriving from Bangkok via Dubai on an Emirates flight, according to a statement by NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi. Mrs. Ekpeme was arrested in Calabar, Cross River State, on Saturday, July 26, with over 3kg of skunk at her residence, following intelligence on her drug-dealing activities.
In Lagos, NDLEA operatives intercepted 21.7kg of Colorado, some packed in moimoi sachets, and 3.8 liters of codeine-based syrup on July 23, while a joint operation at Apapa seaport on July 25 uncovered 101kg of Canadian Loud hidden in 202 tins labeled “Bean Salad Mix” inside two Toyota Sienna buses from Canada, per multiple sources. Additional raids across Edo, Ondo, and other states yielded further arrests and seizures, including 2,500kg of skunk destroyed at a cannabis farm in Ondo. NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa commended the agency’s efforts in balancing drug supply and demand reduction, with ongoing advocacy under the War Against Drug Abuse campaign.
