The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has unveiled plans to introduce a new housing initiative designed to give Nigerians abroad secure access to domestic real estate investments. The scheme, named the Diaspora Home and Abroad Housing Platform, is set to launch during this year’s National Diaspora Day celebrations on July 25–26 in Abuja, NiDCOM Chairman Dr Abike Dabiri Erewa announced today.

During a press briefing in Abuja, Dr Dabiri Erewa highlighted the platform as a timely solution to widespread concerns among diaspora Nigerians who have faced challenges and exploitation when trying to invest in property back home. With remittances exceeding US$20 billion in 2024, she emphasised the platform’s role in transforming diaspora funds into secure, impactful real estate projects.

The platform is expected to debut at the National Diaspora Day events, themed “Optimising Formidable Diaspora Potentials for National Development and Growth.” It will provide a transparent, regulated channel for diaspora participation in housing, backed by partnerships with federal agencies and private investors. Dr Dabiri Erewa urged Nigerians abroad, government entities, private sector players, and the media to engage fully, stressing this initiative’s potential to embed diaspora contributions firmly within Nigeria’s development agenda.
