Anambra PDP governorship candidate Chief Jude Ezenwafor narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Abuja on the night of Friday, July 18, 2025. While returning home from an appointment in the Wuse 2 district, the PDP flagbearer was ambushed and shot by unknown assailants. He sustained gunshot wounds and is now undergoing surgery in a private hospital in Abuja to remove bullets from his body, according to Ezenwafor himself.
Two individuals accompanying him were also injured and are receiving medical attention. Party officials and family members are keeping close vigil at the hospital. Although the motive and identities of the attackers remain unknown, the FCT police have launched an investigation into the matter. Ezenwafor, who was unopposed as the PDP nominee for the November 8 Anambra governorship election, described the ordeal as “near death,” and sources say he remains in a serious but stable condition.
