Former Ebonyi State PDP chairman, Barrister Silas Onu, officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party yesterday and joined the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections. Onu, who also contested the February 4, 2024 senatorial bye-election for Ebonyi South Zone under the PDP banner, tendered his resignation in a letter to his Ward Chairman in Obiozara, citing irreconcilable differences and persistent interference by some sitting governors as his reason for departure.
In the letter, Onu acknowledged his prior service to the PDP both as State Publicity Secretary and later State Chairman. He invited his supporters to follow him into the ADC, expressing hope that the move would foster a more united and progressive political platform in the run-up to the 2027 elections.
His entry into the ADC is seen as a strategic boost for the opposition coalition, which is actively positioning itself as a viable alternative to the ruling party. ADC leaders recently reaffirmed their plans to solidify their ideological base before endorsing any presidential candidate, signaling that Onu’s defection aligns with the party’s broader ambition to grow its influence in key regions ahead of 2027.
