Nigeria’s National Assembly has suspended all legislative activities until Tuesday, July 22, 2025, to mourn the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday, July 13, in London after a prolonged illness. The decision, announced in a statement signed by Clerk Kamoru Ogunlana on behalf of both Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, directs lawmakers to adjust their schedules to enable full participation in burial arrangements and national tributes.

The statement praised Buhari’s service to the nation, highlighting his commitment to unity and integrity as both a military leader and democratically elected president. Condolences were extended to the Nigerian public, the people of Katsina State, and his family, with a prayer that he may rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
