The Lagos State Police Command has announced a total restriction of vehicular movement across Lagos State from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025, ahead of the Local Government Elections. The restriction applies to all roads and waterways within the state’s jurisdiction, and is aimed at ensuring the security and smooth conduct of the polls under the guidelines of the Electoral Act.
According to the Command, there will be a strict prohibition on armed escorts, quasi-security outfits, and the indiscriminate use of sirens or vehicles with covered number plates. All non-essential vehicles, including those from state security agencies not officially accredited by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), will be barred from election operations during the period.
Exemptions have been granted to emergency medical responders, LASIEC-accredited officials, election observers, and media personnel involved in election coverage, all of whom must visibly wear valid LASIEC-issued identification tags. The police have issued a strong warning to potential troublemakers to stay away from polling units, collation centers, and other designated electoral venues.
