The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is scheduled to meet with area council chairmen, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Tuesday in a bid to resolve the ongoing teachers’ strike affecting public schools in the FCT.
The planned dialogue is part of Wike’s broader effort to mediate and find a lasting solution to the prolonged standoff, which has disrupted academic activities and drawn criticism from parents and education stakeholders. Teachers in the FCT have been on strike over issues related to unpaid benefits, poor working conditions, and stalled negotiations on welfare packages.
The meeting is expected to bring all stakeholders to the table to review the demands of the striking teachers and explore viable resolutions. Sources within the ministry suggest that Wike is determined to ensure that schools reopen without further delay and has described education as one of the top priorities under his FCT leadership.
