Rapper Meek Mill has declared he is now fully independent and in control of his music earnings. Speaking during a Twitch stream, he said, “I was getting 13% for like 13 years. Now I’m getting 100% of this sh*t,” confirming that after well over a decade, he has exited traditional record deals and keeps all profits from his music.
Meek, who rose to fame under labels including Grand Hustle, Maybach Music Group, Atlantic, and Roc Nation, has expressed frustration over past contracts. Fans flocked to social media to voice their support, with one X user noting, “Crazy how artists have to survive a whole career just to finally own what they built from day one,”. Others criticized the industry’s treatment of artists: “Record labels are robbing artists. 13% is a robbery,” another commented.
Now helming his own label, Dream Chasers, Meek says he’s gearing up to drop a full project this summer. Being independent has also afforded him total creative control—a step he describes as challenging yet empowering. “I had to learn this sh*t my own,” he added, hinting that his upcoming release might break new ground.
