A BAILIFF of a FEDERAL High Court in Abuja have executed a substituted service on Bukola Olapade, Director-General of the National Sports Commission, NSC, Tonobok Okowa, President of Athletic Federation of Nigeria, AFN, and Rita Moasindi, Secretary-General of AFN.
Alhaji Gara Gombe filed the case of alleged fraud in the management of the finances of AFN but had complained to the court about difficulty in servicing court papers to the accused.
The court ruled for substituted service with the bailiff permitted to paste the court papers at Moshood Abiola Stadium offices of the accused in Abuja. Another party in the suit, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, was successfully service in its office without resort to substituted service.
Alhaji Ahmed Shuaibu Gara-Gombe, the plaintiff in the suit, had petitioned EFCC to investigate the defenders, and filed the suit, joining EFCC, which he wants the court to compel to investigate the alleged fraud.
Gara-Gombe, Chairman of the Gombe State Athletic Association, alleged lack of transparency in a sponsorship deal that Olapade’s company procured for AFN.
According to Gara-Gombe, details of the expenditure of the reported N100m sponsorship are not transparent, and the agreements, including commission paid to Olapade’s company, were not available.
Olapade had acted in his capacity as the chief executive of the sports marketing company before his appointment as the Director-General of the National Sports Commission.
