Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has issued a firm statement denying any support for electoral malpractice. During a media briefing in Abuja today, he dismissed allegations that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has been complicit in rigging elections or manipulating results. The IGP emphasized that the NPF remains committed to upholding electoral integrity, stating, “Our officers are professionals and will continue to enforce the law impartially during and after polls”.

He further warned political actors against politicizing the work of the police, stressing that any form of misconduct within the force would be met with swift disciplinary action. According to Egbetokun, the NPF has already deployed strategic units across key states to ensure peace and order, and is ready to support INEC in ensuring free and fair elections nationwide.
