It is not true that President Bola Tinubu has offered national honours on Aisha Yusufu, foremost female activist and an undying supporter of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the labour party in the 2023 election, the Presidency, said on Saturday.
Coming after a new least came out on the heels of that of Thursday reeled out by Tinubu on the floor of the National Assembly, where he commemorated the 2025 Democracy Day, where a total of 66 Nigerians received various national honours, Aso Rock, maintained that there was no other list, urging Nigerians to disregard the one flying around in the social media.
Temitope Ajayi, presidential spokes man, who countered the new list of 102 Nigerians, containing the name of Yusufu, who has been dishing out lacerating criticisms on Tinubu and his government, maintained that the only authentic names were those released on Thursday.
Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, while stating that the Presidency had not released new names for national honours different from the ones released earlier, added: “The story on a viral list of national honours featuring the name of Aisha Yesufu and others credited to the Leadership newspaper is fake news. It should be ignored.
“The Presidency has not issued fresh names for national honour different from the ones in President Tinubu’s address to the joint sitting of the National Assembly yesterday.”
The list released to mark the 32nd edition of the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election won by Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO), Abiola, finally recognised Humphrey Nwosu, who as the Chairman of the defunct National Electoral Commission (NEC), supervised the election reputed to be the purest in Nigeria history.
