Reports indicate that a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner operating as Air India Flight AI 171 carrying approximately 232 passengers and 12 crew crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad just hours ago. The aircraft reportedly sent a mayday call mere minutes into the flight, reached an altitude of around 625 feet, and then went down in the Meghani Nagar residential area, igniting thick plumes of smoke and debris.

Eyewitnesses and local media report heavy smoke and burning wreckage within a few hundred meters of the airport perimeter. With around 244 people onboard including passengers from India, Britain, Portugal, Canada, and possibly other nations, the full extent of casualties remains unclear. However, officials warn it may be too early to confirm fatalities, and they urge caution as search and rescue efforts continue amid an already mobilized response.
