Yesterday, the world’s most powerful man, President Donald Trump, and the world’s richest and most influential man, Elon Musk, went at it online in a fiery clash that lit up X and Truth Social. It all kicked off when Trump, during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, aired his grievance about Musk trashing his “big, beautiful bill” – a massive tax and spending plan Musk called a “disgusting abomination” on X. Musk didn’t hold back, firing off, “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate. Such ingratitude.” Trump hit back on Truth Social, saying, “Elon was ‘wearing thin,’ I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!” The feud escalated fast, with Trump threatening to pull billions in government contracts from Musk’s companies like Tesla and SpaceX, writing, “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts.”
Things got real spicy when Musk dropped a bombshell on X, posting, “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” He followed up with, “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.” Trump didn’t directly address the Epstein claim, instead shrugging it off on Truth Social with, “I don’t mind Elon turning against me, but he should have done so months ago. This is one of the Greatest Bills ever presented to Congress.” The White House called Musk’s Epstein jab “an unfortunate episode” through Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who said Trump was focused on passing his bill. Meanwhile, Musk kept the heat on, endorsing a post on X calling for Trump’s impeachment and even threatening to decommission SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft, critical for NASA’s space station missions, saying, “Go ahead, make my day.”
The online brawl sent Tesla shares plummeting 14.3%, wiping out $150 billion in value, while Trump’s Truth Social stock also took an 8% hit. Trump remained defiant, pushing his bill as a “Record Cut in Expenses, $1.6 Trillion Dollars, and the Biggest Tax Cut ever given,” while Musk doubled down, slamming Trump’s tariffs as recession-causing and floating a new political party.
