The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has advocated the use of arms by personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, to enable them to carry out their duties effectively.
Alhaji Sulu-Gambari stated this during an official visit by the FRSC Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, to the Emir’s palace in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The Emir who noted that the lack of arms for FRSC personnel has been a longstanding issue, called on the Federal Government to take necessary steps to enhance the operations of the traffic management agency on Nigerian roads.
He also urged citizens to continually support the Corps in its efforts to keep the highways safe.
Responding, the Corps Marshal, who expressed immense gratitude for the Emir’s advocacy, appreciated him for recognizing the risks FRSC personnel face in the line of duty, largely due to the absence of arms.
He stated that his administration is doing everything possible to boost staff morale and enhance overall productivity, as the Corps strives to improve the safety of lives and property.
Mallam Shehu Mohammed emphasized that equipping personnel with arms and securing FRSC installations would enable the Corps to focus more effectively on its core mandate of promoting road safety and reducing crashes on Nigerian roads.
According to him, this move will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the lives of Nigerians and contribute to the overall development of the country.
Meanwhile, the Corps Marshal has commissioned the FRSC housing estate in line with his policy thrust on the continuous enhancement of personnel welfare.
With the Vision 20,000 housing initiative tagged “One Man, One House,” the FRSC boss announced that he has delivered over forty hectares of land for staff and handed over forty homes across various locations.
This feat marks a significant milestone in the Corps Marshal’s quest to ensure that every FRSC personnel has access to decent housing.
Some key locations where homes and land are currently available include: Orozo (Abuja), Ado-Ekiti, Ilorin, Uyo, Sokoto, Kuje (Abuja), and Bwari (Abuja).
The newly commissioned estate in Ilorin, Kwara State, is designed to provide comfortable and affordable housing solutions for FRSC personnel, enhance job satisfaction and productivity, and foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie among staff.
