The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) has intensified consultations and lobbying efforts to secure the creation of Gurara State, leveraging the House of Representatives’ recent decision to reopen submissions for new states.
To strengthen its bid, SOKAPU has constituted a high-powered committee led by Mr Mark Jacob to fine-tune its proposal and engage key stakeholders at state and national levels.
At a press briefing, SOKAPU President, Solomon Tabara, revealed that the group has garnered endorsements from lawmakers and other influential figures.
He dismissed claims that Gov. Uba Sani was opposing the move, presenting evidence of his past support for a similar proposal for a New Kaduna State.
“The claim that the Governor is against Gurara State is unfounded. Available records show otherwise.
“We urge our people to remain united and not be misled by false narratives,” Tabara stated.
He said the proposed Gurara State comprises 12 local government areas, boasting a landmass larger than several existing states.
According to Tabara, the proposed state is rich in agricultural and mineral resources, reinforcing its economic viability.
He said: ”With the House of Representatives reopening the process, SOKAPU is leaving no stone unturned to ensure its proposal meets constitutional requirements.”
According to agency reports, Tabata also expressed optimism that their long-standing dream was within reach.
