The Consulate General of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Friday – yesterday, February 28 – distributed a total of 1250 cartons of dates to the Kano State government and other northern Nigerian States, as part of its annual humanitarian relief efforts.
The initiative, facilitated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), is aimed at supporting vulnerable families across Nigeria thereby strengthening the deep-rooted ties between the two countries.
During the ceremony, the Consul General of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in Kano State, Khalil Admawy, conveyed the Kingdom’s dedication to humanitarian causes.
He expressed his profound gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their unwavering support to Muslims and underserved communities worldwide, emphasizing that Saudi Arabia remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering Islamic solidarity and providing relief to those in need.
He further explained that this year’s distribution included tonnes of dates distributed last week in Abuja and another 50 tonnes for Kano State and some other northern Nigerian States, explaining that these donations were part of his country’s tradition of assisting Nigeria through humanitarian donations.
He noted that the initiative represented the Kingdom’s broader mission to uplift Muslim communities, alleviate suffering, and promote unity.
In his remarks, the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, expressed his sincere appreciation for the donation, stressing that the dates would go a long way in supporting the people of the State, especially the vulnerable ones during the Holy month of Muslim fasting.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government , Umar Faruk, Gov Kabir said the donation came at a time when the state government was also planning to distribute food items to the needy.
He acknowledged the long-standing relationship between the State and the Kingdom and invited the Kingdom to extend support to displaced children camped at the camp as well as support the State’s psychiatric hospital, which is currently in a deplorable state.
It would be recalled that since the establishment of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) in May 2015, with the help of 175 members of the United Nations, the center has completed and delivered more than 2500 projects valued at more than $7bn, benefitting 91 countries.
