In a commendable initiative aimed at spreading love and compassion during the upcoming Valentine’s Day, the Forum of the Alumni Association of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu, Imo Chapter, has announced plans to visit orphanages and prison in Owerri, Imo State.
Scheduled for February 14, 2025, the visits seek to uplift and celebrate those often overlooked in society.
This initiative was unveiled in a Press Release signed by Comrade Destiny Akunesi Chairman of the Association and Onyinyechi Amakulo JP Secretary, where the Chairman emphasized the importance of community service and giving back. “Valentine’s Day is not just about romantic love; it’s an opportunity to show kindness and compassion to those who need it most. We want to share joy and hope with children in orphanages and individuals in prison, reminding them that they are not forgotten,” said Destiny Akunesi ( Akpo aza na data) the Chairman of the Imo Chapter.
The planned visits will include delivering care packages, which will consist of essentials such as clothing, toiletries, and nutritious food items. In addition, members of the alumni association will engage in activities with the children and inmates sharing inspirational messages focused on love, hope, and resilience.
The response from members has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing eagerness to contribute to the cause. A leading Pharmaceutical Company in Owerri Grams Pharmaceutical is expected to support the initiative by donating drugs ensuring that the gifts are meaningful and beneficial.
The Alumni Association aims to make this an annual tradition, reinforcing the spirit of generosity and community involvement among its members. “We hope to inspire more people to take part in similar initiatives. It’s vital for us to come together as a community to support those in need,” added Onyinyechi Amakulo the Secretary.
As the date approaches, the alumni association encourages the wider community to join in the effort. Donations of any kind are welcome, and volunteers are needed to assist with the logistics of the visits.
