The Anambra State House of Assembly and the Imeobi of Onitsha Traditional Council have fixed Saturday, February 15, for the burial of the lawmaker representing Onitsha North 1 State Constituency in the Assembly, Justice Azuka, who was killed by his abductors.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Somtochukwu Udeze, announced during the resumed plenary of the House held on Tuesday -today, February 11 – that the lawmaker will be buried on Saturday in Onitsha, Onitsha North Local Government Area of the State.
Azuka was kidnapped on December 24th, that is on Christmas eve, last year and was later murdered by his abductors who dumped his corpse on a part of the  Second Niger Bridge, Onitsha, where the decomposing remains of the lawmaker was found February 6, 2025.
The Speaker said a valedictory session will be held in his honour on Friday, February 14 at 11am at the State House of Assembly complex, Awka, while his remains will be committed to Mother Earth on Saturday – the following day.
“On Saturday, 15th February, 2025, the burial mass shall take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Awka Road, Onitsha, by 11am. The body will lie in state at Onitsha North Stadium by 10.30am,” he added.
Justice Azuka (Labour Party) was sworn in on Tuesday, 19th December, 2023, after he defeated the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the Appeal Court.
He had served for only a year and five days in the 8th Anambra House of Assembly before his abduction and subsequent demise.
He was the Chairman, House Committee on CSO Establishment and Labour Matters, as well as Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Public Petitions.
