Brimming with seeming overconfidence, President Bola has declared that his administration’s minimum wage increase from N30,000 to N70,000 in a N1,800 to US$1 economy is “a major anti-corruption initiative” of his government.
Tinubu spoke last night – Monday, December 23 -at the first ever media chat of his presidency.
Asked by Maope Ogun Yusuf of Channels TV if fighting corruption is a priority of his administration, Tinubu responded by highlighting what he thinks are the causes of corruption, among them poor infrastructure, poor pay and incentives, explaining that his administration’s of the N70,000 minimum wage is “a major corruption fighting effort.”
Speaking to the raging fuel subsidy removal controversy, especially because of its unplanned, precipitous execution, Tinubu said he has no regrets about his action, pointing out that the decision was necessary to secure Nigeria’s financial future.
According to him, the subsidy was draining the country’s resources and jeopardizing future investments.
