The Director General, Media and Communications to Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, has alleged that about 46 security personnel were dispatched by the Inspector General of Police to arrest him in Kano
Speaking yesterday (Saturday December 14) in Kano at the PR Nigeria Young Communications Fellowship award in the state, he said the attempted arrest was sequel to a petition by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje
“For the last five days, I have been in the Government House and could not come out,” he revealed.
“The nature of Kano politics is such that there is a fight you can even describe as a federal versus state fight. At some point, I have almost been behind everything of that nature. So, there was this petition against me, and nobody is handling the petition but the IGP himself.”
Tofa added that he chose the Government House as a sanctuary because of its constitutional immunity, which prevents arrests on the premises without the Governor’s approval.
He also disclosed that he had secured a court order restraining the police from arresting him.
“I came out because of just three things: one, I didn’t think I should miss this event, even if I’m going to be arrested. The second issue is that I have a court order, which I’m sure the police must have seen because it’s viral. And the third one is that I came here well-fortified to resist arrest if it happens,” he said.
Tofa alleged that Ganduje’s actions stemmed from reports of the APC National Chairman’s suspension by his ward executive.
In the meantime, a Kano High Court has restrained the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies from arresting the spokesman of the Governor.
