Nasarawa United top scorer, Anas Yusuf’s lone goal secured a hard-fought victory against Kano Pillars on Sunday, in a thrilling Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match at Lafia City Stadium.

The star-studded game drew an impressive crowd, with many eager to see former Super Eagles Captain,  Ahmed Musa, current Super Eagles player Shehu Abdullahi, and veteran Rabiu Ali, the oldest player in the league, play again.

The pivotal moment of the match came three minutes before halftime, when Nasarawa United’s standout striker Anas Yusuf, the current NPFL top scorer, exploited a defensive lapse to net the only goal.

Yusuf, who now has nine goals in nine matches, dribbled past Kano’s defense and goalkeeper to give the home team the lead.

Celebrated by fans throughout the game, Yusuf and other Nasarawa United players recently invited to the CHAN Eagles camp, including goalkeeper Galadima Muhammad and defender Victor Collins, relished the local support.

The fans’ unwavering energy was palpable, with chants and applause reverberating as they backed their team.

After the game, Nasarawa United coach Kabiru Dogo expressed optimism about his players’ future prospects.

“This team is a work in progress, but with such determination, more of our players could earn a spot in the national team,” he said. “With consistent performances, there will definitely be light at the end of the tunnel.”

Following the victory, Nasarawa United now sits in the eighth position on the NPFL table, with three wins, three draws, and three losses. The top four spots remain occupied by Rivers United (21 points), Remo Stars (18 points), Enyimba (17 points), and Plateau United (14 points).
