Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has reaffirmed his commitment to proceed with the Local Government election scheduled for October 26, 2024, despite a recent Federal High Court ruling that declared the election null due to alleged biases in the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC). The court found that NNPP-affiliated officials held key positions within KANSIEC, raising concerns about the impartiality of the election process.
Addressing supporters at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium on Thursday evening, where he presented NNPP flags to the 44 chairmanship and councilorship candidates, Yusuf made his stance clear, stating, “The state will not allow anybody to destabilize the existing peace enjoyed by our people.” He emphasized that both the state government and KANSIEC are operating within the legal framework required to conduct the election, asserting, “We have met all conditions as per the law and finalized preparations, so the election will proceed as planned on Saturday.”
Yusuf also alleged that “enemies of the state” are attempting to disrupt the electoral process but assured supporters that these efforts would fail, and that the election would be conducted peacefully and transparently. He further pledged to swear in candidates declared winners by KANSIEC, signaling his administration’s readiness to uphold the results of the poll.
Governor Yusuf encouraged NNPP members to return to their wards and fully prepare for election day, lauding them as the true backbone of the party. He expressed confidence that the NNPP would achieve a clean sweep of all 44 chairmanship and 484 councilorship positions, citing strong support across the state.
The Acting National Chairman of the NNPP, Dr. Audu Ajuji, also shared his confidence in the party’s prospects, anticipating a peaceful election and a landslide victory. State NNPP Chairman Hashimu Dungurawa, in turn, praised the high turnout at the rally, interpreting it as a testament to the widespread backing for the party in Kano.
