Ebonyi State Police command has commenced disciplinary actions against some of its men caught in a viral video collecting money from motorists on some highways in the State.
Some policemen from the command were seen in a video on the ever-busy Ishieke junction of the Abakaliki/Enugu expressway and some other places on the highways exhorting money from motorists.
The officers were seen on video issuing balance to the motorists whose monies were above the particular monies they demanded from them before they could pass them to continue their journeys.
The videos went viral, eliciting condemnations from members of the public.
The command in a statement signed by its spokesperson, DSP Joshua Ukandu said it has identified the policemen on the videos and has commenced disciplinary measures against them.
Ukandu said: “The command is aware of videos making rounds on social media depicting our officers acting unprofessionally at their duty posts.
“The command unequivocally condemns their actions and has identified the officers involved, while disciplinary actions have already been initiated against them.
“The Commissioner of Police Ebonyi State Police command, CP Anthonia Adaku Uche-Anya, fdc is using this medium to reiterate the command’s zero tolerance for extortion or any form of misconduct while noting that any officer found wanting would face disciplinary actions”
