Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has announced that he will make a final bid for the presidency in 2027, ruling out any future attempts after the next general election.
Atiku disclosed this during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Wednesday, stating unequivocally that the forthcoming election would mark the end of his presidential ambitions.
“The 2027 election will be my last outing,” he said.
The former vice president, who has contested the presidency multiple times since 1992, explained that his continued interest in the office is rooted in what he described as Nigeria’s enduring leadership challenges.
He maintained that his experience in governance, combined with his understanding of the country’s evolving needs, positions him to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Addressing concerns about his age and repeated attempts to secure the presidency, Atiku said he represents both continuity and forward-looking leadership.
He argued that Nigeria requires leaders with the capacity and preparedness to tackle its economic and governance issues.
Beyond his personal ambition, Atiku stressed the need to nurture a new generation of leaders, calling for deliberate investment in leadership training and capacity building for young Nigerians.
He noted that empowering youths with the right skills and orientation is essential for sustaining democratic governance and ensuring long-term national progress.
