The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, says the party will end poverty and insecurity in the country if it wins the 2027 presidential election.
Adebayo stated this while featuring on the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Personality Interview Series on Sunday in Abuja.
He expressed his gratitude to SDP for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the mission against what he called the menaces of poverty and insecurity.
“There are many qualified and active people in SDP. Despite that, the party still thought it wise that I should lead the message. For that, I feel very grateful.
“I have a high responsibility to make sure that Nigerians do understand that SDP has come to put an end to poverty and insecurity. Those are the twin-problems that are majorly bedeviling the country.
“I feel that now is the time to take advantage of the little opportunity left before people completely lose interest in the leadership of the country”.
Adebayo said that he was not in the 2027 race against any politician, but against the problems facing the country and to find simple solutions that had eluded the nation for so long.
According to him, Nigeria is battling with pervading poverty, insecurity, poor economic management, unemployment, insufficient electricity and high cost of education, among others.
While expressing SDP ‘s preparedness for the 2027 contest, he said that the party would ensure that all Nigerians understand and support the mission, in line with the party’s manifesto entitled: ‘Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity’.
“What I am facing in the 2027 presidential election is beyond just the other candidates. I am facing the conundrum that Nigeria cannot solve simple problems that are not difficult to solve.
“So my contest is against poverty, against insecurity, against bad government, and that is my message to the Nigerian people.
“The success of our campaigns will be measured by how we communicate these issues and solutions to Nigerians, to believe the solutions that we bring and to trust that we have the competence, character and integrity to do as we have said when we get in there”.
The presidential candidate said that the party was better prepared now than ever, saying that what was left was to also prepare the Nigerian people to take ownership of the country’s democracy.
He said that what comes out of the 16,874 polling units across the country would be the major determinant, stressing that SDP would ensure its manifesto got to everyone while its agents would be present at all the polling units.
Adebayo said that before the election day, the party’s manifesto would be translated into 15 languages in print, audio and visual formats.
He stated that Nigerians had voted for the manifesto before during the June 12 (1993) election, adding that it had now been refined to meet contemporary needs.
Adebayo said that no one could lay claim to the ownership of SDP and neither could anyone claim to be the sole founder of the party.
“SDP is a national party formed by Nigeria for all Nigerians, and if given the opportunity, has the solution to our problems in the country”.
