The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally endorsed businessman and politician, Mr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, as its preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The endorsement, announced at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, was described by party leaders as a “strategic step” to reposition the PDP ahead of the next general elections.
Speaking at the event, the FCT PDP Chairman, Sunday Zaka, said Olawepo-Hashim embodies the qualities of leadership that Nigeria currently needs. He noted that the former presidential aspirant has consistently demonstrated patriotism, competence, and a deep commitment to national unity.
Our party in the FCT has carefully reviewed the political landscape, and we believe Olawepo-Hashim offers the right vision and capacity to rescue Nigeria in 2027. He has the intellect, the global exposure, and the experience to tackle our economic and security challenges”.
Other party stakeholders, including youth and women leaders, echoed the endorsement, stressing that the decision was reached after wide consultations with grassroots members across the six area councils of the FCT.
In his response, Olawepo-Hashim expressed gratitude to the party’s FCT chapter, promising not to disappoint their trust. He assured members that if given the opportunity to lead the country, he would prioritize economic revival, job creation, and national reconciliation.
Nigeria needs healing, unity, and a government that works for the people. I am committed to building a strong economy and a safer nation where every Nigerian, regardless of tribe or religion, will have a sense of belonging,” Olawepo-Hashim said.
The endorsement comes amid ongoing alignments within the PDP ahead of its national convention, where the party is expected to decide on zoning and other arrangements for the 2027 presidential ticket.
