The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Wednesday stated that opposition political parties are already setting the stage to allege electoral manipulation ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s anticipated victory in the 2027 presidential election.

Akpabio made the assertion while playing host to members of the City Boy Movement, a prominent pro-Tinubu support group, during a courtesy visit to his office at the National Assembly complex in Abuja.

Addressing the delegation, the Senate President maintained that the administration’s ongoing economic and structural reforms would ultimately secure a second term for the incumbent president. He suggested that the opposition’s eventual grievances would merely be a predictable, pre-emptive reaction to their imminent defeat.

The remarks come amid shifting political dynamics in the country, as rival political camps, including backers of former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso actively explore strategic coalitions and joint tickets to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general elections.

Akpabio, however, dismissed the potent threat of a unified opposition, commending the City Boy Movement for their sustained youth mobilization efforts. He urged the group to intensify its grassroots advocacy and remain steadfast in marketing the achievements of the “Renewed Hope” agenda to the Nigerian electorate as the political climate heats up.
